5 out of 5 stars Lowepro topload zoom camera bag   May 30, 2010

This holster fits my Canon 7D fitted with a 70x200mm 2.8L IS II USM lens like a glove. I have the hood to the lens up side down in the bottom of the case so its available if needed, It also adds extra protection to the end of the lens. I purchased this bag as an extra bag just for that lens set up. The bag is made very well, very durable. It also fits a Canon 430EX2 flash in the front pouch, The 580EX2 fits in the pouch also When you open the Velcro spacer in the floor of the large pouch, that allows the space to expand into the small pouch below the larger one. otherwise the smaller pouch is large enough to carry many flash cards, a remote control and such. There's space on each side of the lens also, would fit lens filters, a couple packs of cigarettes, candy bars, dust rag, note pad, stuff that size. There's also zippered storage on the inside of the lid. The bag hangs comfortably over your shoulder for easy access and there's a handle on the upper back side of the bag.

I have needed something like this for some time. This was the most affordable product I could find, and I've more than gotten my money's worth! Can't wait to try it out when hiking and riding my bike.

It is very sturdy and I feel confident that the strong velcro will maintain it's strength over time.

5 out of 5 stars Still going strong after 15 years   February 16, 2010

In 1995 I bought a Canon Elan SLR camera, a 70-210mm f/4 telephoto zoom lens, and a black Lowepro Topload Zoom AW at a local camera store. Now it's 2010. The Elan has been in the back of a drawer since I switched to digital, and the zoom lens has long since been replaced by a much better one, but the Topload Zoom AW is still in daily use and shows no sign of wearing out. This is one durable camera bag.

This is a pretty roomy bag. A lens of up to about 7.75" (for example, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens) mounted on a DSLR fits comfortably inside the main compartment without making the zipper difficult to close. Alternatively, you can put a smaller lens on the camera and have room to store another small lens at the bottom of the bag, with one of the supplied velcro-edged pads in between. The outer compartment is suitable for storing a couple of filters, a spare battery, and other small accessories (memory cards, USB cables, etc.).

The bag makes rapid access while standing very convenient. When the zipper is opened, the lid gets out of the way automatically; due to the Topload's design, the lid naturally wants to stand up, and has to be held down by the zipper. This is much better than the conventional bag design in which the lid wants to flop down and get in your way.

I had no idea when I bought this bag that I'd still be using it 15 years later. Every so often I browse the camera bags available here on Amazon to see if there's anything I think I'd rather be using, but I haven't found anything yet.

3 out of 5 stars Bag is HUGE!   February 7, 2010

Was shocked when I received a bag that could have almost fit TWO of my cameras, with their lenses attached, in it! The bag is MUCH bulkier than you expect from the dimensions described. I had to return for a refund, minus the cost of shipping the bag back (over $15).

I have a D70 with an assortment of lenses, the longest being 70-300mm. The reason I wanted a holster case was so that I could still have comfortable access to my camera with a hiking backpack on. This bag was almost the size of my hiking backpack! I could not even sit down with this holster case strapped to my chest because it was so large. It is a wonderful bag... if you have a foot long lense that you need to protect. If not, then go with a smaller bag.

I ended up with the Lowepro Toploader Pro 65 AW and a attachable Lowepro Lense Case. The 65 AW also comes with a much nicer 3-point harness attachement and a weatherproof cover that still allows you access to your camera, even when it is on, unlike the weatherproof cover on the Zoom AW. Highly recommend anyone with a D70 or similar body and lenses shorter than 6 inches check out the Lowepro Toploader Pro 65 AW before purchasing this case!

5 out of 5 stars My zoom lens and camera love it!   December 2, 2009

I purchased this a few months ago specifically for on-hill ski photos. I spend most winter weekends with a bunch of ski racers, and shoot around 3,000 images in a weekend. Swapping lenses on the course is a really bad idea (lens and camera guts do not mix well with snow,) so I needed a good way to carry the camera/200mm lens.

This is the best investment I've made in a camera bag. I'm not saying that if I take a header down the hill or if I kiss a tree the bag will save the camera - only a hard case would do that. But it does keep the camera safe from minor falls, keeps it warm (there's plenty of space to add heat packs) - and dry. There's a cover that pulls out of a small pouch that acts as a rain poncho for the bag, making it darn near water proof! The outside pockets hold extra batteries and CF cards. It also supports the lowepro harness system - I'm looking into that for this bag and other lowepro bags I own.

Update: This winter (Jan 2010) I DID take a header down the hill - 25 foot tumble followed by a 50 foot slide at Marquette Mountain. Camera and lens: undamaged.
