Great Protection. August 27, 2010 ReTech (Everywhere) My first camera was a Nikon F3 that had a leather body protector on it. That leather kept the body in wonderful condition and no doubt kept the camera going against all my efforts throughout the years. This camera armor beckons back to those days, but with a clear 21st century look.
I like to take a lot of urban decay shots. I always have. In so doing I climb, jump, fall and bump into stuff a great deal as does my camera. And, honestly, digital cameras have made me temper a fair amount of my shots for fear of banging that camera too much. When I found this body armor I thought I'd give it a shot. And I am glad I did. I've just had it a day, have installed it and just gave it a go. IMHO it's money well spent on a rather expensive camera.
The pros:
*fits well
*buttons are usable and readable (indented words identical to Nikon's white labeling on the buttons, if you wanted you could take a bit of white-out and smudge it into them to make them more readable)
*does not limit any of the cameras functions
*has a universal screw mount adapter
*comfortable
*allows access to battery, card and side ports
The cons:
*adds about .25" to the overall width of the camera
*collects dust, grease, dirt
*not the easiest thing to install (but then again, so what... I want something that fits tight and will not be sloppy when in use)
*lens hood does not work for a zoom lens
*adds weight to the unit
This really is a great product and investment for your camera. I'd love to see them improve the lens hood somehow. Nothing is hindered on the camera. Rather nicely it covers all the branding. Which, to me, makes the camera less of a target for prying eyes.
camera armour, greath idea August 22, 2010 guimar Fantastic protection for the camera body, specially for travelers and professionals. It works perfectly, the cost is very low but the result is vey high and permit to carry the camera in any bag
Camera Armor: Excellent Choice July 13, 2010 Goldwing2500 I purchased the Nikon D90 in May, 2010 and wanted to protect the camera during use since I ride a motorcycle on long distance trips regularly. I read the reviews prior to buying and was very impressed when the product arrived. It literally fit the camera like a glove. The buttons are easy to use and all the symbols are there as well. My only draw back is the rubber hood that goes on the front of the lense, (I have the 18-105 mm) is not very compatible with the lens hood that comes in the package. I feel better putting my camera down on any hard or rough surface knowing the body is well protected. The product does what it is designed to do. I am satisfied. Thanks!
Tough enough May 17, 2010 Matthew B. Diehl (Sugar Land, TX United States) As noted in previous reviews, you have to press a little harder on the buttons (which you would expect with a thick rubber skin). The bottom plate is a bit challenging to remove and replace and could use some redesign in future versions, but this is not a deal-killer. You can fold the bottom plate back to remove the battery without taking it off. The lens armor makes it difficult to put your camera in the bag (if yours goes in lens-first like mine).
However, this is a tough skin that fits well and will certainly protect your investment, which really is the point. Personally, I like the way it looks but I wouldn't care if it was "ugly" as someone else said. Grip is solid and comfortable.
Fantastic!! May 2, 2010 James Clark (Crystal City, VA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this Armor!!! I got a Nikon D60 and the Armor for it and while that was fantastic and worked beautifully they have improved it so much for the D90! When I fitted it onto my D90 it fits perfectly, all of the buttons are easily seen and pressed and it now has a part to cover the bottom of the camera and "lock" into place! It looks very stylish, gives you very good grip of the camera, and allows for easy use of all of it's functions, even the tripod mount of the bottom.
The only issue I have is I bought the Pop-up shade by Delkin as well and since it's made by a different manufacturer it can't really be put on at the same time as the armor since it also covers the buttons around the LCD, but I will just interchange them as needed. I haven't ever really needed to use the pop-up shade since the LCD is so clear but I figure it's just another nice thing to have.
This armor is a must-have for anyone who cares about protecting their camera!
